For the longest time i thought that easter island was a made up place, it seemed like an obvious lie that eventually you get to an age and find out its not real, like who actually creates an island and names it after the whitest holiday ever and then covers it in giant stone heads? Nobody. Nobody would do that. Its not real.
But when i was like 14 i re-became an easter island believer because i found it on google maps and it seemed real enough.
And after doing more research into easter Island, it is more horrifying than i could have ever imagined.
Number 1, the giant stone heads that are everwhere on the island. They are not just heads, they have bodies. They are just buried under the ground. The head only makes up about ⅓ of their size.
There is also this giant stone statue that was fully carved, but was too big to lift upright, so it was just left laying sideways in the ground.
Moving away from the giant statues though:
Ever wonder why it even gets the name easter island? Because the first european to arrive on the island set foot there on easter sunday, and hence became known as easter island.
What a wholesome fun story and im sure nothing else happened that was at all bad…
Oh yeah i almost forgot:
in the 1800s, 94% of the native population on the island were killed or kidnapped to be used as slaves by settlers, which completely decimated the population.
